Aung wanders down the streets of Paris, entranced by the street art seen on almost every corner of the city. He wears blue jeans and a pale pink t-shirt, complete with a well worn pair of white sneakers; a perfect representation of his minimalist style. Although this comfortable ensemble does not follow the “current trends” (in fact, Aung is not interested in them), his timeless look has a just as stylish story behind it.
Growing up, Aung’s father owned an apparel company that sold basic clothing pieces. Aung would go to big name stores like H & M and Zara with his father to search out the current trends. He even modeled for his dad’s store (Yes, the photo was adorable)! As a child, Aung used to wear shorts and flashy graphic t-shirts, the typical young kid uniform. However, growing up in the industry led to an evolving style that was more simple and thoughtful.

Imagine this: The most beautiful brick and mortar store with white walls, full of plants, with concrete and wood touches. It’s a fashion lover’s daydream, straight out of Pinterest! Aung hopes to open a shop like this one day, following his family fashion roots. His store won’t need to be elaborate or showy; his pieces will match his minimalist style and speak for themselves. But before he gets there, Aung wants to learn how to create a successful fashion empire. As a second year business and design major, he strives to learn how a brand becomes so prominent. How did other popular brands break into the industry? And how can he replicate that for his own success?
The more I got to know Aung, the more I realized we had a lot in common. We geeked out about Adobe Softwares and how we each edit our photos and videos. Seeing Aung tote around his film camera makes me miss mine that I left at home. Aung’s fashion on this trip started a little more simple, but now his goofy and laid back attitude is reflected in his daily outfits. A peach shirt with navy blue pineapples. A pink and white button up. A Justin Beiber tee. With each passing day, I learn more about Aung through his clothing, and through the way he interacts with his new friends. He is so authentic and kind to everyone he meets. He is the type of person you want to be around, always cracking jokes and capturing every moment of our Parisian adventure. I can’t wait to see how Aung takes the fashion world by storm with his minimalist and modern style.
