Read the Gender Expansiveness Zine HERE.
In 2020, I competed in the Northeastern Fashion Society's Project Runway competition. The theme of the competition was Gender Expansiveness. I interpreted this theme by exploring the traditional gendered colors of pink and blue while blurring the lines of gender through silhouette. I also took the traditional mens suit and womens dress and mixed and matched them on more masculine, feminine, and androgynous bodies. I loved exploring what is traditionally supposed to be worn underneath and hidden being worn on the outside.
I then styled and constructed items in real life to represent the designs that I created. I photographed this lookbook for the competition alongside a trailer video for the collection. This project was turned into a zine by fellow team member Thandiwe Tembo.
